Good morning fellow DBMC members,
On Sunday, August 3rd, we hosted our first Inter-Club Match of 2025 against the Golf Made Sense Men’s Club. The format was a competitive but friendly 12 vs. 12 Individual Match Play.
Our team showed up ready for battle, proudly wearing our Diamond Bar Men’s Club logo polo shirts. After team photos and opening tee shots, the first match kicked off between the team captains.
Under the hot summer sun, we set the tone early with a commanding 5 & 4 victory in Match 1. In Match 2, our youngest team member faced off against a well-known local junior golf instructor and unfortunately came up short. In Match 3, our Home Tournament Chairman, JJ Garzone, dominated. After squaring the match on hole 4, he never looked back, closing out with another 5 & 4 victory and shooting a net 68—earning him the title of DBMC’s low-man.
JJ’s playing partner, long-time member David Vanore, demonstrated resilience. After a tough start, he squared the match on hole 10 and didn’t lose a single hole afterward, clinching the point on 16. In the 5th match, our points leader Stan Kim faced a tough opponent in Eric Pak, who shot a net 67. Stan battled hard but fell just short, losing 1 down on the 17th hole. His playing partner, Christian Lise, was 1 down heading into 18 but made a clutch par to halve the match.
After the first six matches, DBMC led 3.5 to 2.5.
The second half of the team brought it home strong. Rey Almazar and Brandon Castille each secured victories. Despite Almazar’s opponent making a spectacular hole-in-one on Hole 3 (162 yards), Rey remained composed and focused. Both he and Brandon showed why Diamond Bar Golf Course is our home turf. Their wins brought the score to 5.5–2.5 in DBMC’s favor.
Next up, Joey Contreras faced another junior instructor, Peter Martinez. Their match was tight all the way through, but Joey sealed the deal with a clutch win on the 18th hole—securing the overall team victory for DBMC.
Final matches from Aguayo, Collins, and Lind added more points, giving us a final score of 8–4 in favor of Diamond Bar Men’s Club!
With this result, DBMC proudly takes home the Golf Made Sense Championship Belt, which we’ll hold until the rematch. Champagne was popped, and a jubilant celebration followed.
A big thank you to the DBMC Board for your generous support, providing green fees, team shirts, and refreshments for all players and guests. And a special thank you to the Diamond Bar Golf Course management team for graciously allowing us to host this event on our home course. Your continued support makes events like this possible.
It was a fantastic day of golf, camaraderie, and competition. We look forward to more events like this in the near future.
Regards,
Andry Kusnowo
